Yellow Rice
Yellow rice is the most flavorful rice!
It tastes buttery and satisfying, but it's cooked with olive oil. The perfect side for Mediterranean or Mexican dishes.
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of Turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon of Ground Cumin
- 2 teaspoons of Sea Salt
- 2 cups of Basmati Rice
- 3.5 cups of Cold Water
Directions
- In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil for 3 minutes.
- Add the spices and stir (with a wooden spoon) into the olive oil for 30 seconds
- Add the rice and mix everything together. Toast the rice for 2 minutes, but not near burning the rice.
- Add the water and bring to a boil.
- As soon as the liquid is boiling, mix the rice, cover the pot, and turn the heat down to low. Cook for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, lightly fluff the rice by mixing from the outside inwards.
- If the rice is still wet, cook on low heat for an additional 5 minutes.
- Turn the heat off and keep covered for 5-10 more minutes before serving.
Tips
- If the rice still looks wet after the 15 minutes, keep the heat on low for an additional 5 minutes.
- Be careful to stir the spices after adding them to the hot olive oil so the spices don't burn.
- 2 teaspoons of salt may seem like a lot, but it makes the rice really flavorful.
