Green Beans
These green beans are tender, flavorful, and lightly browned with extra-virgin olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper.
Steaming the green beans first allows them to become tender before a quick sauté adds a little browning and extra flavor, making them an easy side dish for almost any dinner.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces of Green Beans
- 1/4 cup of Water
- 1/4 teaspoon of Sea Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of Ground Black Pepper
- 1 tablespoon of Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
Directions
- Wash the green beans thoroughly.
- Trim the ends from each green bean and discard any damaged pieces, such as those with brown spots.
- Place the trimmed green beans in a large frying pan and add the water.
- Turn the heat to medium-high and cover the frying pan with a lid to steam the green beans.
- Cook for approximately 5 minutes, or until most of the water in the frying pan has evaporated.
- Remove the lid and add the sea salt, ground black pepper, and extra-virgin olive oil.
- Using a wooden spoon or spatula, stir the green beans until they are evenly coated with the olive oil and seasonings.
- Continue cooking uncovered for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the green beans begin to lightly brown.
- Serve warm as an easy and flavorful side dish!
Tips
- Trim only the ends of the green beans that need to be removed to avoid unnecessary waste.
- The initial steaming step helps cook the green beans until tender, while the final sauté with olive oil adds flavor and a slight browning.
- For softer green beans, steam them for an additional **1–2 minutes** before adding the olive oil and seasonings.
- For additional browning, allow the green beans to sit undisturbed against the hot frying pan for short periods during the final **2–3 minutes** of cooking.
